As a former therapist who is actively decolonizing my practice, here is how I operate.

Behavioral Coaching

My early foundations in healing work started with tangible tools such as DBT skills, Mentalization Based Therapy, and CBT. While I no longer center these modalities due to recognizing that for many they are often not the problem but rather they exist or have existed in unhealthy and often violent environments, I know that it can be helpful to engage in behavioral coaching if you have never been taught how to address behaviors that have formed from trauma or other difficulties. Behavioral coaching with me can look like this:

  • Learning how to recognize what thoughts you have and why.
  • Learning how to challenge thinking patterns that no longer serve you or were never yours to began with.
  • Learning how to create goals, monitor progress, and recognize blocks emotional or otherwise that hinder progress.
  • Gradually shifting behaviors without feeling shame, judgement, or other unhealthy strategies that can often come along with behavioral methods.

Trauma Informed Coaching

All of my coaching is trauma informed. As a social worker by training, I deeply understand how important it is to focus on the relationship between client and coach. Most importantly though, trust, care, and consent must be involved. This is also why I shifted from a traditional medical therapeutic model to mental health coaching. In order to ensure that coaching is a safe space I incorporate theories from Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, Emotional Focused Therapy, and social justice. I believe that psychoeducation, self advocacy, and liberation are key. Here is what this may look like:

  • Learning how to advocate for self.
  • Recognizing how to regulate and feel safe.
  • Incorporating polyvagal theory.
  • Discussions on Boundaries and attachment styles.
  • Learning how to embody “self” energy.

Somatic and Mindfulness Coaching

Mindfulness is not new to me, but as I have immersed myself more in learning to be present and embodied I have picked up somatic skills as well. For me these two interventions are ones that came intuitively. They are how I healed my own nervous system dysregulation. As a survivor I recognize the power of learning to listen closely to the body. I will also say that this form of healing can be incredibly powerful for bodies of color as they navigate ancestral healing. Here is what somatic mindfulness can look like with me:

  • Learning how to recognize when your nervous system is dysregulated.
  • Learning how to recognize what triggers activate your body.
  • Learning concepts such as proprioception and interoception.
  • Learning about how to access your bodies senses.
  • Creating regulation and co-regulation practices.

Neurodiversity Coaching

As a neurodivergent person who has been diagnosed since the age of six, I have been able to learn a variety of tools to help me navigate the world. Coaching for neurodivergent individuals can be incredibly helpful. During coaching you can expect me to use a blend of approaches while also destigmatizing and highlighting the brilliance and uniqueness of neurodiversity, whether you were born with it or it was “acquired”. For many neurodivergent folks behavioral tools and healing can be tricky due to ableism, knowing this I focus on acceptance of self while also sharing resources. Here is what you can expect:

  • Psychoeducation on what neurodiversity is.
  • Discussions/referrals to manage medication.
  • Executive functioning skills and how to increase capacity to use them (including planning, organization, working memory, self control, perseverance, attention, flexibility, time management, emotional control, self monitoring/awareness, and task initiation).

Let’s heal together.
